The Video.

So here it is, the post you have all been waiting for, the final music video presentation. Id like to thank my Mum and dad, my fabulous actors..., don't worry I wont go into all tho set that, but here it finally is, all the months of working have paid off, we believe so anyway. 

So lets talk about the video then. Firstly we discover that we have a panning shot of Bristol city, this is the location. People who are familiar with the setting will be aware of this straight off, but to those who aren't need you not worry. We then fade to a panning shot of the bench. This bench will come up a lot in the following scenes. This is then followed by the title, band and record label. This is then met with another fade as we move to the introduction of our two name less characters. Man and woman. They are very clearly an item, I assume that this conclusion is met with the hugging and kissing. Suddenly dramatic quieting of music and time-lapse. All of sudden, the relationship turns sour, Its open to your opinion to think what happened. We then see the couple argue, this is the final meeting of the two, well in the video that is. We then follow the male through a upsetting look out to sea. Then to a car park where we will end with the ambiguous ending of does he, doesn't he. 

Under the theory of interpellation. This is the theory that constitutive process where individuals acknowledge and respond to ideologies, thereby seeing themselves as the characters. This is how i need to be careful about my presentation. As as much i wanted people to relate to the character and see they arent alone, i didnt want people to follow in his footsteps.

The History Of Ambient Rock

Ambient rock had its cultural origin in 1970's Britain. Also known as Post-Rock it is a genre that is influenced by the use of musical instruments and beats found in common rock songs. Post-Rock bands tend to go without vocals. Tortoise was one of the bigger Post-Rock bands in the 1990's. The term is instrumental but the focused on guitars and drums. It was popularly seen on the 'Indie' or 'Underground' scenes in the 1990's.
The term Post-Rock is believed to have originated from critic 'Simon Reynolds' even though the term had been around for almost a decade it became well known when he published it in a magazine called 'MOJO' back in 1994 when he commented on the album 'Hex' by 'Bark Psychosis' even though a personal belief that he created the term, it is actually believed that James Wolcott' coined it back in 1975 but with a different meaning. The rolling stones magazine gave it a different name. 'Avant-Rock'.
The album 'Spiderland' by 'Slint' and 'Spirit Of Eden' by 'Talk Talk' are credited as giving birth to Post-Rock back in 1988. Even though the two band both have a different sound 'Talk Talk' coming from 'Art Rock' while 'Slint' come from post-hardcore, they both had a massive influence on how Post-Rock moved forward through the 90's.
In the 2000's The term 'Post-Rock' had become more controversial and discredited. The original band 'Tortoise' along with a few other major Post-Rock bands started to reject the label. It was claimed to have too many different types of styles and was in fact 'Robbed of its usefulness'.
In the modern day, despite its rejection by the creators, the term Post-Rock still remains in today's society. This is thanks to the use of it in TV shows and films. The popularity is that it moves towards rock sounds, simpler song structures and utilization of pop hooks. The move into the 21st century has generally eliminated vocals from its repertoire.

Our front cover. The image on the front is colorful. We tried to exaggerate the colours in order to give it that happy look, They look cartoonist. This is in keeping in my theory of binary opposites.

We also have the cohesive image of the bench which we hope to link into a band image.

The record company we chose is also on the front.'Atlantic records' We chose them as they have a lot of post rock groups under them.

We decided against a colourful scene as the image itself isn't happy. We considered having the colour contradict the scene but we wanted to fully express the scene with this image.

We also included song disclaimers and legality of the song.

This is the info panel. It provides both an image of the band and few facts about them, with a picture in the background and the strap line they wanted.

Magazine Advertisement 2

This our second magazine advertisement.

The main image and title is on one side while the information is on the other side. I chose to remove the background from Matt as it shows his significance to this preliminary text. It shows that is all about him. This would be used to promote the band as I showed that it was a new band era. 

I also released some information on the Band for fans to read up on them and gain more info on them. I also focused on Images as the make the advertisement look attractive as no one wants to read a essay of words on a page.

We decided to do two as there are different forms of advertisement and we wanted to get our video as known as possible.

Magazine article Review 2

This is an appealing magazine article by Kerrang for the blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus. The magazine article is eye catching with the very big title "My Dinosaur Life" which makes sense when you read the main article.
Lighting
The lighting is light and vibrant, showing that this is an upbeat article, doesn't contain many dark themes and is in general a nice read rather than touching on dark and deep issues.
Colour
The colours are bright, while what he is wearing is dark he is still portrayed as a fun guy with the bright red and white colour background.
Costumes
His outfit is in keeping with the genre he plays in the band. As a punk musician he also goes against the norm as he has done with his outfit with the background being bright and nice he has gone opposite with black clothing.
Camera Angles
The camera is aimed up at him showing him that he is important, which he is to the article. it gives him a look of power over the dinosaur as he is the most important out of the two in this article.

Questionnaire results

Question 1: How would you rate our video? 1-10

Answer: On the average 7.3/10 (With a range between of 4-10)


Question 2: If below 5 what can we do to improve? (Low at encourages feedback)

Answers:

•  Needs a final bench scene, the panning shot at the end need to be of the bench as a closing scene
•  That appeared to be the only type of improvement that people seemed to notice

Question 3: What do you like?

Answers:

•  Simplicity and different shots used. Fits the mood of the song
•  The camera skills
•  The stairs was mentioned a lot, people seemed to like the part where i filmed my hand on the banister
•  Repetition of bench scene in the beginning
• Transition of shots
• Change of black and white to reflect mood  
• The soundtrack                                   

Question 4: Do you think it all fits in time?

Answer: Every single answer said yes, that the timing for everything was good and that it all fitted well


Question 5: How do you perceive the ending?

Answer: The answer on here was fairly mixed, which is what i was hoping for really, with the fact that people cant decide whether i have jumped or not is exactly what i was looking for as i want it to be open for personal interpretation.
